Psychotherapy: Therapeutic approach

I offer a practical, flexible, and sensitive approach to therapy that is informed by current research, builds upon your strengths, and reflects your unique situation. My style is warm, direct, interactive, and collaborative.
For those of you who are familiar with the “lingo” of various theoretical orientations, I am trained in some of the more active behavioral and solution-focused treatment approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, EMDR, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I am also trained in the postmodern orientation of Narrative therapy and the process orientation of Psychodynamic therapy.
A less technical way of explaining my approach is that I believe you are the expert in your own life. Together we can learn about the values that are important to you, identify ways you want your life to change, and help you make the changes you desire. In this respect, therapy is structured based on a shared understanding of our objectives, which should reflect your individual needs. Some people have open-ended objectives, such exploring thoughts and feelings on a particular issue or life decision. Others wish to accomplish something specific, such as reducing the intensity and frequency of panic symptoms or sleeping better at night. Regardless of the specificity of our collaborative goals, I ensure that there is space to explore thoughts, feelings, and other experiences along the way. My belief is that therapy is about working with you to discover what works for you.
